You can do it two ways.
1. You type in a block of text, then highlight it and click on the multi-colored icon to the left of the smiley icon, and a list of colors with present it's self, then you select one of the colors by clicking on it, and it will put in code around your block of text.
Like this
2. You can select your color from the multi-colored icon, and it will put in the code. Then you can start typing between the two "]["'s
